Socorro is an incorporated city on the Rio Grande southeast of El Paso, with a 2020 census population of 34,306 and ZIP code 79927. It grew about seven percent from 2010 to 2020, and it mixes the historic Mission Trail around the Socorro Mission with large areas of newer subdivisions served by the Socorro Independent School District. Homeownership here is high compared with the city of El Paso, which means roofs get maintained and replaced instead of ignored.
Newer Socorro subdivisions are mostly single-story homes with asphalt shingle or low-slope roofs on stucco walls, and many are now old enough that the first roof is wearing out in the sun. Older parts of town, closer to the river, have flat roofs and tile. Both face the same desert issues: UV, brittle sealant, spring wind, and ponding or leaks in the monsoon.
Socorro runs its own planning and building department, separate from the City of El Paso, so a Socorro reroof is permitted and inspected by the city of Socorro. The licensed roofer we refer knows the difference, handles the permit and the final inspection, and starts with a free inspection so you know what you have before any price is written.
